Dealer Principal Earl Duff Pre-owned Center 2021-present
My father started as a used car dealer in Harriman in 1968, the year I was born. He acquired the Subaru franchise in 1973. I literally grew up in the car business. I have worked in our stores from the time I was 12 years old performing every role in the dealership except technician. I took over as GM of our Subaru franchise after college and built the store into a top performing dealership. In 2020, under my leadership, we built a new Subaru facility in Kingston where we quickly increased our new and used sales numbers to over 100 units per month. I was approached by a large auto group about acquiring our Subaru franchise last year and completed the sale in September 2022. Our family now operates an independent used car dealership on the site of our previous Subaru location in Harriman.
Over the years, I’ve served on many city and county boards as well as various church and secular committees. This service combined with my 21 years’ experience on the Subaru Dealer Advisory Board has taught me how to work with my peers toward common goals. My experience as a former new car dealer, as well as my roots in the used car business, gives me a unique perspective for new and used car dealer needs. I feel I would be an asset to the TNIADA Board in identifying and lobbying for needed changes in our industry.

Hi, my name is Leobardo Solis Jr.
I am a Hispanic-native resident of Shelbyville, TN and have lived in Shelbyville for 29 years. I graduated from Shelbyville Central High School in 2007 and from Tennessee College of Applied Technology in 2009. I was a General manager of Star One Motors and Broadway Motors for 10 years, helping Rutherford country and surrounding areas with their automotive needs.
My Dealership LP Automotive, LLC has serviced Bedford County and surrounding communities with vehicles and automotive services for 8 years and as an entrepreneur independent car dealer, I am always learning. Recently, I was acknowledged in an article in the ‘Good News Magazine’ in Shelbyville Tn. It was a great feeling to be recognized in my hometown for the work I love and helping hard working families get the transportation they need. (see article attachment)
I started my car lot in 2016 and about the same time, I began the new journey of becoming a contractor at City Auto in Murfreesboro. I respect the capability of the dealership leaders, how it is structured and the accomplishments that I have witnessed being a part of the dealership. Over the years, I have given City Auto my very best and have focused my attention on the company to perform and achieve great things.
At my dealership in Shelbyville, LP Automotive, we do repairs and recon and I manage my time well selling trades that don’t fit City Auto’s program. It is exciting to be a part of two successful businesses. I have been blessed with huge customer relationships and bank networks that have allowed me to have great success, I can help share those relationships with the association and benefit other dealers.
I want to continue to serve my community and establish relationships with other dealerships in Tennessee to help provide support in the industry, so we learn better ways to run and manage our businesses. In my off hours, you will find me having fun with my five older children. My forte are Sales and Financing, Marketing, and General Auto Repair, and I look forward to helping Tennessee Independent Dealers..

David Meyer, president of Advantage Automotive Analytics, has been an ardent and active supporter of the Tennessee IADA even as we began exploring creating the organization.
“Our senior leadership at Advantage has made support of the NIADA and its state affiliates a top priority,” Meyer said. “Having local associations dedicated to assisting dealers with their business, operations, and compliance needs and supporting consumers by encouraging ethical standards is essential to a healthy used vehicle marketplace.
“We’re proud to support the Tennessee IADA. The association continues to grow its membership and services, and we’re pleased we can play a role.”
Meyer began his automotive career at a retail dealership at a young age. He excelled in all areas inside the dealership and rose to the position of General Manager of a high-volume, new car franchise dealership group.
During his retail tenure, Meyer also successfully owned BHPH and Powersports dealerships; he understands first-hand the challenges faced by today’s automotive dealerships and lenders.
Before taking his post at Advantage, Meyer was Executive Vice President of Sales and Services at Spireon, Inc., responsible for most of the company’s operations. He has over 28 years of industry experience; Meyer established several fundamental building blocks in technology that have been adopted and are still used today by over 14,000 car dealerships nationwide.

My name is Joseph Henderson and I am currently a managing partner with Parkway Cars and Tires, and Co owner of Car Country. I have been in the automotive business since 1999 were I started in the detail and tire shop. In January 2001 I went to work at Neil Huffman Chrysler in Louisville Ky. Over the next 15 years I worked every position in a dealership. From Sales, detail, service, new and used car manager, finance ,sales trainer, and General Manager. Over this period of time I had gained a skill set that would enable me to help the Independent space. For the next three years I worked with these stores setting up finance, service, and sales processes . This is what leads me to my position today. I have been a member of NIADA for three years and have attended the conference for those three years. I have also attended the BHPH Forum for two years and the Policy Conference once. I am a two year member of the TNIADA. I am also a three year memeber of the KADA. I believe in making a better industry. I think that education is away that we can make it better.
My wife Kelly and I have three children, Nathaniel 20, Graysen 16, and Lila 10. My family enjoys serving the Lord and spending our summer at the lake.
When I say I had a crash course in car dealing, it could be taken literally, as I was exclusively a salvage rebuilder for the first years of my career.
From 2003-2008 I bought cars online nationwide, led the troops in parts ordering, rebuilding, inspecting the work, and submitting rebuilt title applications. It was an incredible experience of problem-solving and building momentum in the business, and is a season of life I look back at fondly.
Around 2009-2012, I attended industry conferences, NABD and NIADA on several occasions. It was quite an eye opener. I'd always return from those conferences with a renewed sense of vigor and outlook, and business continued to catapult.
The best practices and business theories I learned those years at the conferences would serve me well for some time to come.
One of the lessons I learned was the meaning of success. Not the dollars in the bank account, but the personal level of happiness. I realized there is a certain happiness in simplicity. So now I just have my one store, in Goodlettsville, and am happier and more hopeful for the future than ever.
There are many struggles personally and professionally that an independent dealer goes through in their growth and development.
Here at your service to help in any way I can for our industry.
Matt started selling cars in Memphis, TN at the age of 19. The next year he moved into finance and by the age of 26, was working as a General Manager. After 14 ½ years with that dealer, Matt left the franchise world and went to work for City Auto in April of 2009. In 2011, Matt and his family moved to Murfreesboro, TN to open a new location of City Auto. Under Matt’s leadership, the Murfreesboro City Auto grew from selling 15 cars its first month to averaging almost 200 cars a month in 2020. Matt is also active in the communities in which he lives. In his home town of Millington, TN, Matt served as a Stephen Minister, chair of his church’s Staff Parish committee, on the finance committee, and as a member of the church council. As a member of Leadership Millington, Matt co-founded an Art’s Council that still goes strong today. In Murfreesboro, Matt and City Auto are proud supporters of MTSU athletics, the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, Main Street, the Exchange Club, the United Way, ARC of TN, and many more. Matt hopes the next 25 years in the car business are as fun and rewarding as the first.
I have been in sales for most of my life and got into the car business in 1999. I spent the first 11 years working in the franchise side for FORD and LAND ROVER. I moved to the independent side in 2010 and have not looked back.
I first had an unsuccessful lot for a couple of years and then went to work for a dealer who continued to grow over the years. Going from one small lot to having three successful dealerships and a successful service center, I started at the ground level and became Vice President over all operations.
After over 6 years, I decided I was ready to open for myself again. My wife and I opened THORPE AUTOMOTIVE almost four years ago and we continue to grow. We have a 4.8 to 4.9 customer rating on at least 5 different social media platforms.
We are members of the BBB and we believe in community outreach. We simply try to do what is right and we try to treat people the way we would like to be treated.
I would first say I am a God Fearing man and certainly try to put my faith first in everything I do. Not perfect by any means and mess up on a daily basis. Thank the lord for his Mercy and Grace!

John Somich of The Car Store in Piney Flatts and Johnson City- BHPH
John Somich is a life-long resident of the Piney Flats area. It is a small community between Johnson City and Bristol on Highway 11-E sixteen miles from Virginia and 27 miles from North Carolina. I have been an independent automobile dealer Since 1992 operating as many as four locations since that time. I currently have two locations in the Tri-Cities area.
Having never worked in any car business except the one I started in my driveway. Subsequently, I have come to understand the value of professional education and the necessity of continuous improvement. I believe strongly in the NIADA and the subordinate state associations. The NIADA was invaluable in helping me regain my balance after "cash for clunkers" shattered my initial BHPH business model that had served me well for 16 previous years.
I am married to Michele Somich and have two daughters Stephanie and Gracie. I am a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army Reserve logging twenty-six years of service. For the last nine years I have served on the Board of Directors of the Dawn of Hope, a non-profit organization operating more than 20 group homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout east Tennessee. Most of the time I have served as their Treasurer. My wife and I worship and serve at First Christian Church, Johnson City Tennessee.
